Isolating the Kick with the Compressor’s Built-in EQ
The secret lies in telling the compressor to only “listen” to the low-frequency information of the drum loop—the part where the kick drum lives. This prevents the higher-frequency sounds like snares and cymbals from triggering the compression.
Here is the step-by-step guide:
- Add a Compressor: Place Ableton’s Compressor audio effect on the track you want to sidechain (for example, your bassline or synth pad).
- Set Up the Sidechain Input:
- Click the small triangle at the top-left of the Compressor to expand the sidechain options.
- Enable the “Sidechain” button.
